How To Keep Porcelain Crowns, Bridges, And Veneers Looking Their Best

Posted on 12/23/2021 by Dr. Dani Stansell
How To Keep Porcelain Crowns, Bridges, And Veneers Looking Their BestVeneers, crowns, and bridges all offer long-lasting solutions for improving your smile. These dental treatments undergo normal wear and tear due to their daily use. However, there are ways you can keep them functioning properly and prevent damage. Caring for your veneers and bridges helps prolong their life and prevent problems with your remaining natural teeth as well as the gum.

Wear a Mouthguard

Whenever you head for sports and other activities, it is crucial that you wear a mouthguard. Even if you are not playing contact sports, accidents can occur, and with a mouthguard, you can avoid injury that would necessitate additional dental work. Use mouthguards that offer a tight fit to ensure maximum protection and comfort.

Brush, Floss, and Rinse

Porcelain crowns, veneers, and bridges need proper care, just like natural teeth. Even if you wear veneers and bridges, other dental problems like gum disease can still occur. Brush twice a day for about two minutes each time. Floss the mouth at least once, and frequently rinse, especially after eating sugary foods.

Don't Chew Hard Objects or Ice

Chewing on hard materials can crack or damage your dental work. Also, if you grind the teeth while sleeping, ensure you use a nighttime mouthguard to prevent the veneers and bridges from having too much pressure that could damage them.

Avoid Beverages That Stain the Restorations

While tea, coffee, soda and wine are all popular drinks, you should limit their consumption. These beverages have tannins that build upon the enamel. And although tannins are organic, unfortunately, they can cause stains on the teeth. If you consume them, ensure you brush or rinse the mouth as soon as possible.

See a Dentist for Regular Cleanings

Your bi-annual dental visits should be part of your oral hygiene routine. The visits help keep your veneers and crowns at their best by catching any problems early. A dentist performs professional dental cleanings during the visit, which in turn helps keep the teeth and gums healthy and the restorations looking new. Request an appointment with our dental team for dental work and checkups.
