Preventive Measures for Periodontal Diseases

Posted on 7/18/2022 by Dr. Dani Stansell
Preventive Measures for Periodontal DiseasesPeriodontal diseases entail the later stages of gingivitis. When one eats or drinks sugary foods and beverages, the bacteria in the mouth feed on them, producing acids as the by-product. The acids eat away the enamel, which covers the soft inner tissues of the teeth. When the situation is left unattended worsens, leaving out tooth cavities characterized by swollen and bleeding gums, especially when brushing your teeth. In its extreme stages, the disease results in periodontitis with pulled away gums and bone and tooth loss.

Dentists advise regular brushing and flossing of teeth to remove the accumulated plaque and tartar. The formation of either plaque or tartar produces toxins in the gums, which in turn become swollen and red. Earlier plaque removal will eliminate the chances of tartar formation, which is quite hard to remove by bare toothbrushes and requires dentists' attention.

How To Prevent Infection of Periodontal Diseases

Ideally, the primary prevention of periodontal diseases includes regular brushing teeth and flossing after every meal. Ensure you replace your toothbrush frequently to avoid contact with bacteria attached to the used brush. We recommend replacing your toothbrush once every three months. When flossing, makes sure you perform it before brushing your teeth to ensure all removed remains and bacteria are cleaned during brushing.

Our dentist advises visiting our offices as one of the preventive measures for periodontal diseases. In its early stages, the infection can be reversed; however, it may require extensive treatments during its extreme levels, affecting even your pocket. Therefore, paying a visit to our offices for dental checkups will establish our underlying conditions and ensure you receive the best medication at the right time.

For safe and efficient periodontal medication procedures, allow our dentists to have a proper check on your dental health. Contact us to book an appointment today.
